A sudden return to scheduling for Millsey's Gym of Legends this week, saw the successful Felix return to action, going up against Mowgli's undefeated BOKKE. Going into this fight, BOKKE seems to have taken the fast route to success, with all his wins coming by 1st Round KO. A bane to fellow flash KO artist He is not Human He is like IRON, BOKKE came out feinting and faking but it seemed business as usual as Felix went down out of his clinch for Eight. A shock was in store however as the referee saw a rabbit punch which left Felix writhing in pain. The referee halted the bout, and it was again all over in the 1st Round for BOKKE - just not in the manner he had hoped.
Felix defeated BOKKE by a foul in round 1The 6' 6" Descartes towered over his 5' 4" opponent Tucker and both fighters went strictly by the book. Descartes tried to use the ring and backpedal for a decision, whilst Tucker fought inside. Embarrasingly for Tucker, Descartes had far more Agility and won the Rounds with ease as Tucker struggled to land a decent number of punches. A bizzare rest round in Round 5 didn't help matters either. In the last round, Tucker finally seemed to realise the seriousness of the situation and went all-out for the KO. He did indeed score two Knockdowns, but it was all too late, and Rene Descartes took the decision.
Rene Descartes defeated Chris Tucker by unanimous decision: 117-109, 117-109, 117-109He is not Human He is like IRON does indeed seem to be a breed apart from your usual fighter. He certainly doesn't believe in hanging around in the ring, as all but one of his fights have ended by KO in the 1st Round (the other was a victory by TKO in Round 2 after his opponent nearly ran out of the ring to keep away from him). Against veteran Ever The Bird, IRON was favourite. The odds quoted for the fight to last more than 1 Round were quite generous. Sadly though, any gamblers were disappointed as IRON put the Bird down twice before finishing the job in 1. Bird looked rough, and IRON again got an early finish. Can anyone take this guy the distance?
He is not Human He is like IRON knocked out Ever The Bird in round 1The son of former Straw Top Ten ranked fighter 'Tin Can' Sally achieved some measure of fame himself last week for his frantic yet futile defence against Ginger's He is not Human He is IRON. This week he was matched against another fighter from the GingerBadger stable, one of the two identical Chinese twins. Sally had beaten the first brother, but meganchongsho had won both of his fights by KO in Round 2 - a scary precedent. The fight started with few surprises as Sally used the ring, and meganchongsho went inside. Both fighters tired quickly as meganchongsho threw more punches, but Sally landed more. As the fight wore on, there was more than one 10-10 tie Round, but Sally eeked out a small lead. In the end it just tipped the balance as meganchongsho obviously thought twice about an all-out attack.
Second Generation Sally defeated meganchongsho by unanimous decision: 116-113, 116-112, 116-113The other Chinese twin from GingerBadger got a rematch against Pete who last time seemed unable to raise any form of fight. Not much changed here and meganchongcho won by the simple act of fighting. Strangely Pete is still fighting whilst meganchongcho has retired. Perhaps meganchongcho was bored or sent to sleep by his opponent. The crowd certainly were...
meganchongcho defeated King Prawn Pete by unanimous decision: 120-108, 120-108, 120-108Veteran fighter Killer Mike went into this title fight very much the underdog. Joppy may have fought his first fight in 1998, but returned from a two year spell of retirement to confidently take the title and defend it. If any Manager in the UK knows how to fight a regional title fight it is Nick@, and again the combination proved too powerful for the opponent. Mike fought inside, whilst Joppy used the ring. Both fighters threw many punches, but Joppy was landing more. With a lead secure, Joppy backed off and despite being the least tired of the pair, Mike couldn't seem to really threaten during the last few rounds.
William Joppy defeated Killer Mike by unanimous decision: 116-112, 116-112, 116-112The last time these two met, the capital Iron Mike got the decision. In this rematch, Mike cut off the ring whilst Pontiac used it. Initially Mike threw the more punches of the two, but Pontiac responded well and soon raised his punch count. Pontiac built up a small lead only to see it whittled away by Mike who according to the commentators was winning rounds by doing more damage. The commentators called a drawm but tt's up to the judges for the final decision though. They all gave the nod to Pontiac. Revenge for Bobcat's fighter.
Jacob Pontiac defeated IRON MIKE FLY SON by unanimous decision: 115-114, 115-114, 116-113Cullyn, the silver dagger had a chance for a rematch here against the more experienced Super_Griffin's The Power who had handed him his only defeat. The taller Cullyn used the ring whilst The Power decided to ignore the judges, grab his opponent into a clinch, and pound for all he was worth. Cullyn easily built up a lead, but tired quickly. An all-out in Round 7 saw Cullyn down twice without reply, and The Power switched between inside and all-out for the kill. Despite surviving another round with two knockdowns, Round 10 was just too much and Cullyn couldn't get up before the referee had counted him out. The Power has announced his intention to chase a fight with title holder William Joppy. It's back to the drawing board for Cullyn though.
Chuck 'The Power' Reynolds knocked out Cullyn in round 10
Another fight between a Mac Loaf fighter and a GingerBadger fighter. Due to the spread
nature of the UK Cruiser ratings, it was the only fight this week at this weight.
You don't get many FBI agents in the UK, but Joe seems to be trying to be a Mac Loaf slugger,
despite being taller than they usually are with all his wins coming through KOs. Jagermeister
lost in Round 4 to Joe last time out in an exciting fight. This one though started with even
more fireworks, with both fighters scoring knockdowns. Round 2 saw Jagermeister again knock his
opponent down, but staring through the injuries, Joe seemed less worn at the bell. Joe
continued to use the ring and Jagermeister continued to go inside, and for two rounds, the crowd
held their breath as the Joe tried to draw back into some form of lead. Round 5 saw Jagermeister
again land a knockdown, despite having to get medical attention from his trainer. Round 6 was the
last of the contest as Joe's stamina told and Jagermeister went down twice before falling
motionless against the ropes, forcing the referee to step in. Both fighters were tired, the crowd
were very happy and the doctor concerned. What a fight!
The chase is on to catch "Toff" and a Gent at the top of the table, and Deadman and The Game once again went head to head. The Game, with his 8 inch height advantage at 6' 7" won the last encounter by decision, and was looking for the same. The Game backpedalled, building up a lead against the clinching Deadman. Unfortunately for The Game, Deadman noticed that whilst he was losing the rounds he wasn't taking any damage. A switch to inside and then all-out brought rewards as The Game couldn't withstand the onslaught, and Deadman gained revenge. Next week however these two are at it again for a second rematch!
Deadman knocked out Triple G "The Game" in round 10Another one week only affair for one of Millsey's more famous fighters, fighting Mac Loaf's Stormtrooper representative. Without his armour, the Trooper used the ring, going for a decision. Bravo (with trademark shades) clinched and despite landing few punches began to seriously wear down his opponent. Going inside began to yield dividends as knockdowns in Rounds 9 and 10 lead to the Trooper's KO in Round 11. Whoa Mama!
Johny Bravo. knocked out "Trooper" Davin Felth in round 11An interesting fight between the promising Voodoo and the experienced Cobb. Both fighters went outside for some reason, despite Cobb giving up 7 inches to Voodoo. This proved to be the decisive decision for the fight as Voodoo won every round raising his water bottle in victory, leaving Cobb obviously tired.
Satala "Voodoo" Hoodoo defeated Randall Cobb by unanimous decision: 120-108, 120-108, 120-108Both fighters clinched in this matchup, with Tillis wearing faster. In Round 4 Thunder surprised everyone by going straight from the clinch into an all-out attack. Most surprised though was Tillis who went down for Eight and then dropped like a stone for Ten. Montezuma! was not best pleased as he dumped Tillis after his first defeat. Must have been a lot of Injury Points.
Jonny Thunder knocked out James Tillis in round 4An curious fight here. With King weighing only 188 pounds, unless there's something we don't know, he really should be in the Cruisers. In this fight he had to give up 56 pounds to Potato Head - a not insignificant amount of Strength. Potato Head should have held all the aces, but decided to clinch against his shorter opponent, so losing a great deal of his height advantage. King went inside, and despite the weight difference rocked Potato Head all around the ring and eventually to the canvas.
Caesar ` King ` knocked out Mr Potato Head in round 1Both fighters took punishment in this affair as Jones clinched and Man used his agility from his height to cut off the ring. In the end Man's tactics worked, and Jones found himself down for the Ten count in the 1st Round. Surely Jones must have been the most annoyed fighter in this fight.
The Annoyed Little Man knocked out Jake Jones in round 1My this fight was sure over quickly. TreTalls went outside, probably thinking about a decision victory. What he probably wasn't expecting was to see The Animal storm out of his corner like a raging all-out bull. Perhaps The Animal sneering at TreTalls wasn't such a great idea as with his next punch TreTalls knocked The Animal out. Both fighters were obviously tired at the end, even with so few punches. Whew!
Trevor TreTalls knocked out Frank 'The Animal' Fletcher in round 1At last a fight that wasn't a Round 1 KO! The 6' 9" Kenney Jones has never had a KO in his career and didn't go looking for one against Mayfield. Mayfield clinched whilst Jones used the ring to employ the time honoured dancer tradition of building up an unassailable lead and then running for it. Mayfield moved inside to try and wear Jones down but it was all to no avail.
Kenney Jones defeated Reggie Mayfield by unanimous decision: 116-112, 116-112, 116-112The Wrecker used his height advantage to good effect here as he went outside whilst Bird tried to use the ring. Wrecker tired faster but won the rounds, and only the last couple of rounds did Bird trouble the judges.
Ramon "The Wrecker" Zoist defeated Free As A Bird by unanimous decision: 118-110, 118-110, 119-109Viper was underweight and undertall in this matchup as Casper moves away from his slugger experiments of old. Using the ring didn't help as Comeback went outside to make the most of his height. It was easy for Comeback in the end as the white-wash ensued. What a way to make a comeback!
Something of a Comeback mk.1 defeated Simon "Viper" Coza by unanimous decision: 120-108, 120-108, 120-108Not many people know that the actor who played Uncle Albert was a boxer in his younger days, but here on TBG we are able to relive those earlier halcyon days. His opponent Alan Henry tried to use the ring, just as Merryfield tried to cut it off. In the final shakedown, Henry got tired faster and Merryfield held on for a comfortable decision. Capital performance.
BUSTER MERRYFIELD defeated Alan Henry by unanimous decision: 117-111, 118-111, 119-110.A new title up for grabs between these two fighters, both the same height, but different weights. Both fighters clinched and whilst the Teletubbie did more damage, Stormy SS won all 4 Rounds. A first title for gareth rees and a place in UK Regional history. Congratulations to Gareth, and bad luck to Bobcat. I did have all manner of puns lined up for the Teletubbie, but you'll be grateful to hear that now's not really the time.
Stormy SS defeated Po "The Red Teletubbie" by unanimous decision: 40-36, 40-36, 40-36
